LAWMA Completes Extensive Clean Up Of Apapa Axis, Hands over to Stakeholders

The once notoriously dirty Apapa is now wearing a new look following the massive clean up exercise carried out by the Lagos state waste management agency, LAWMA.

LAWMA team led by the Acting Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, today officially handed over the cleaned axis to stakeholders and for sustainability.

Before this massive clean-up was carried out, the Maritime centre of Lagos was overflowing with dirt. Everywhere littered, dirty, filthy and smelly. Almost every street, junction, major roads and even market places have replaced dustbin sites, with piles and tonnes of dirt littering every nook and cranny of the town.

The situation was an eye sire that needed urgent attention and once again, LAWMA came to the rescue removing piles of waste from roads, walkways, and street corners leaving the area clean and habitable.

However, this is not the first time Apapa has been thoroughly cleaned but whenever a clean-up exercise of this magnitudes occurs, it only takes a few hour before the refuge starts returning back to the roads.

This has necessitated the meeting between the management of LAWMA and stakeholders in the community to fashion out ways the clean up can be sustained and the Apapa axis consistently clean.

LAWMA Boss, Odumboni in continuation of his Appraisal Tour visited several sections of Apapa, satisfied with the amount of work done and the result achieved.

Nevertheless, Odumboni expressed his disappointment with the residents and businesses that operate in the axis for their nonchalant attitude toward waste disposal and warned that such attitude will no longer be accepted or tolerated.

‘A lot of work has been put into the cleanup exercise and the results are evident for all to see. The issue with Apapa is that of sustainability because clean up is always been carried out. And this where the stakeholders come in. They will ensure that Apapa does not return to the way it was before,’ Odumboni said.
