Zamuxolo Joseph Peter, who was a member of South Africa’s parliament’s portfolio committee on tourism, has died following a short illness due to Covid-19, the committee said on Friday night.
Joseph Peter was an MP of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party. He was described as being driven by the objectives of non-racialism and a non-sexist and united SA.
Peter joined parliament as a member of the National Assembly after the 2019 general elections.
He becomes the third ANC Member of Parliament to die of the coronavirus disease within the past two months.
The Portfolio committee on Tourism sent its heartfelt condolences to Peter’s family, friends and comrades.
South Africa has recorded over 493,000 coronavirus confirmed cases and 8,005 deaths. It is the hardest-hit country in Africa.
