Three suspects are in custody after abducting Director of Hi-tech Enterprise while personating Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers.
The trio; Godwins Otieno Agutu, Alex Mutua Mutuku and Ken Gichovi Kimathi, according to the DCI, acted alongside three others who are still at large.
The gang is said to have demanded a Sh2 million bribe from the victim in order to stop pursuing an alleged tax evasion case.
On September 26, the three are said to have stormed into the victim’s office when they took his laptop and left. They were using two Toyota Prados Reg. Nos. GKB 070B and KCY 280Q.
Three days, they returned to the victim’s office demanding the bribe. It is then that they loaded the victim into the GKB vehicle whose plates were found to have belonged to a Land Rover Discovery attached to the Judiciary.
They drove the victim to Lutheran House along Nyerere road and demanded that he raises the money. The victim contacted their family and was able to raise Sh500,000.
On the same day, they drove him to his Westlands home where they collected the money.
Investigations into the matter led to the arrest of the three suspects who were found at Lutheran House. Upon interrogation, Otieno alleged to be working with a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) named Network Action Against Corruption (NAAC).
He also revealed that they worked alongside Houdouvia Njoroge, Harrison Ochar and Brian Kimemia, who are allegedly KRA officers.
During their arraignment on Wednesday, police sought five days to complete investigations but were only granted one more day.
DCI in a tweet indicated that the three suspects at large will be charged with abduction and demanding with menaces.
