Chinese Contractor Arraigned in Kenyan Court for Obtaining Ksh 15 Million by False Pretence

A Chinese contractor was on Monday charged with obtaining money by false pretenses from a creditor.
Appearing before Kibera senior resident magistrate Renee Kitagwa, Zhang Aixian denied obtaining Sh15 million fraudulently.

It is said that the accused person on different dates between 2016 and September 2, 2019, falsely obtained Sh15 million from Jiang Baoqul, a creditor of Silzha limited.
Aixian was also charged with another count of conspiracy to defraud by falsely pretending that they were in a position to transfer directorship and shares to Baoqul.

State counsel objected his release on bail on grounds that he is a flight risk, a claim the defense lawyer rubbished.
The prosecution objected his release on bond on the ground that he was a flight risk.
But his lawyer Valentine Ataka downplayed the claims.

“They arrested the gentleman from his factory in Lodwar and he had been running his factory for some years now, he has invested a lot in his factory and he is not a flight risk, we request for lenient bail terms,” his lawyer Valentine Ataka told the court.
The case will be mentioned on September 10.
