In reaction to the ongoing nationwide protests against SARS in Nigeria, and with the demonstrations gaining momentum in major states in the country, the Governor of Rivers State, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has on Monday banned all forms of protests throughout the State.
According to a release from the state’s Commissioner of Information, Paulinus Nsirim, the state government stated that “all proposed protests under #EndSars Campaign are hereby prohibited.”
It further states that the “Government took the decision because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
“Therefore, there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists.”
He further admonishes Parents and Guardians to ensure that their children or wards do not violate the order.
And also directed law enforcement agencies to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.
