The ongoing nationwide demonstrations against SARS in Nigeria continues to raise dust as the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Frank Mba, on Friday claimed those who are protesting are “pseudo-activists, desperate for public validation or want to be seen as social media influencers”.
He made the comments during a show on Channels TV: “The protest against SARS is for different reasons. There are those genuinely concerned about the professional misconduct of some officers and seek reformation because of infractions on the rights of some Nigerians. We are in line with them.
“However, others are protesting because they are beneficiaries of criminal enterprises. Some of them are people who are receiving stolen goods. Others are into organised crimes such as gunrunning, importation of drugs and so on.
“There are also pseudo-activists, desperate for public validation or want to be seen as social media influencers. These are the ones that post false items and fake news.”
However, it occurs that the PRO’s comment didn’t go down well with Nigerians as most saw it as a sign of unwillingness from the Government to yield to their calls for the disbandment of SARS.

Dr. Dípò Awójídé (@OgbeniDipo) tweeted: “I’ve known Frank Mba for over 15 years, since his days in Abuja. I honestly don’t know what happened to such a fantastic role model police officer. His comments today are really embarrassing and disappointing.”
Omoyele Sowore (@YeleSowore) said: “Just watched the gibberish from Frank Mba when our #EndSarsProtests met Frank yesterday, I declined to let him speak to us, instead demanding the IG come out to make a statement. Frank is confused. Frank mistakes his rabble-rousing for intelligence! #ENDSARS chikena!
Kelvin Odanz (@MrOdanz) said: “This is just a reminder that the leadership of the Nigerian police force is worse than the rag-tag criminals in uniform killing Nigerians on the street.. Listen to DCP Frank Mba on channels TV and you realise that the fight is deeper than we thought. The NPF is rotten from the top”
