Kenya: Githuguri MPs Bodyguard Shoots Bouncer in Club

A bodyguard attached to Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago on Wednesday shocked Ngegu villagers after he fatally shot a nightclub bouncer in Kiambu county.

The administration police officer identified as Dennis Wainaina is said to have demanded for the deceased, nicknamed Makanga, to open the bar for him to purchase alcohol.

Bars reopened their doors on Tuesday and are only allowed to operate until 11 pm.

Witnesses say the officer was at the Lounge 54-Riverside club well after 11 pm.

Makanga is said to have thrown the officer out of the club after he was engaged in a fight with other revelers. Upon escorting him out, Wainaina is said to have drawn his pistol and shooting Makanga twice in the neck from behind.

“The officer had developed an unruly behavior. He first engaged in a war of words with a female reveler who was forced to leave after the confrontation degenerated to a heated exchange. He then moved to another table where he started hurling insults at other patrons and the bar almost turned chaotic,” a witness told K24 Digital.

By-standers and officers from Kiambu G.K Prison, which is 200 metres from the nightclub, rushed the victim to Radiant Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect then went back to his Umoja Estate home where he locked himself and family in to evade arrest. Sources say he at threatened to kill his family or commit suicide.

He was arrested later after police informed him that the victim was still alive.

He has since been taken to Kiambu Police Station.
