A popular Nigerian Televangelist and the founder of Eternity Network International (ENI), Apostle Joshua Selman has condemned the operations of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a dreaded controversial unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
Apostle Selman in a tweet on Saturday wrote “SARS should be proscribed..they are a disgrace to the police force..they are worst than the ‘criminals’ they claim to be against..their trigger-happy nature have rendered mothers childless, sent youths on premature extinction.wasted destinies.they will reap what they sow…”
He further added: “The old have failed in leadership..now the youths are been killed by SARS and their salaries are paid by these same failed old leaders..so indirectly, the old are killing the young…”
Apostle Selman further joined list of influential personalities in the country who has called for the restructuring of the Police unit.
The Former Senate President of Nigeria, Bukola Saraki, had also spoken against the unlawful activities of SARS operatives on social media.
Sen. Bukola Saraki tweeted: “The reports of the continued harassment, illegal arrest, detention and high handedness by rogue cells of the SARS Unit of @PoliceNG against innocent Nigerians – most of them young people – in spite of efforts to reform the Police & raise standards of policing, are disheartening.”
“A situation where the officers of @PoliceNG become a threat to the lives and property of the very citizens they swore to protect is condemnable and unacceptable.
“I call on the Federal Government to immediately put a stop to these reprehensible activities and restructure the unit to better perform its lawful duties of safe guarding the lives and property of the Nigerian people.”
The Special Anti-Robbery Squad is a unit under the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
