The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has assured World Trade Organisation (WTO) Candidate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of total backing as she strives to become the first female director-general of the WTO.
President Buhari on Monday hosted the two-time Finance Minister of Nigeria. During which he stated firmly that the Nigerian government will do all that they can to ensure she wins the WTO top job.
President Buhari said “She deserves this. I will continue to seek support from world leaders on her behalf. Whatever phone calls need to be made, whatever letters need to be sent, I will do it.”
Okonjo-Iweala emerged as one of the final two candidates for the WTO Director-General role after several rigorous screening and voting.
And she will be seeking to beat South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee in the race.
